Project Description

Background

For a long period, sections of the community water channels and wetland areas had become blocked by invasive vegetation, accumulated waste, and siltation, making movement difficult for fishermen and residents who depend on the waterways for transport and economic activities. The blockage negatively affected fishing operations, water flow, environmental conditions, and increased the risk of flooding within nearby communities.

Objectives

The project aimed to restore and rehabilitate the blocked waterways to improve accessibility, support fishing and transport activities, promote environmental conservation, and strengthen community livelihoods. It also sought to enhance water flow and contribute to climate resilience within the area.

Activities Carried Out

The project involved community mobilization and the physical clearing of invasive weeds, debris, and accumulated waste from the waterways and wetland channels. Local youth and community members participated in opening the blocked sections to allow easier movement of boats and improve water circulation. Environmental awareness and conservation efforts were also emphasized during the exercise.
